Welcome To The S.T.E.P. League

The STEP league was formed years ago, originally started with four towns of St, Walburg, Turtleford, Edam and Paradise Hill and how the name S.T.E.P came about. We have expanded the league to 15 towns and 57 teams. Our territory runs from the Alberta border to Big River and Meadow Lake down the the Battlefords. We appreciate all the support the communities have given to the league in the past and hope to serve them well with all minor hockey needs in the future.

Please note: game sheets are to be faxed to 306-845-4269 within 24 hours and then mailed to:

May 4th @ 2:00 at the Turtleford Arena

Female Hockey

To:   All Female Hockey Players

As you may know, we have had a girls’ hockey team based out of Maidstone for the past two years.   We have nine team members of the existing team who will be Pee Wee-age (born 1996-97) next season and five that move up to Bantam (born 1994-95).  We are working on forming a team for both of these age divisions for next season.  Girls who are younger than this are eligible to play on the Pee Wee team.  Sharing practice locations with another town is a definite option if there is strong representation from that town on the team.

The existing team has two practices per week and usually one game per weekend, sometimes two.   We are a member of the East Central Alberta Female Hockey League (www.ecafhl.com).  The Pee Wee division of the League has eleven teams this year.  We are pleased with this league and are planning to continue there next year. Teams in the Pee Wee division in the ECAFHL this season are Maidstone, Lloydminster (2), Wainwright, Bonnyville, Macklin, Irma, North Battleford, Cold Lake, Lac la Biche, Viking.   The Bantam division has very similar teams registered.  Depending on the teams that register next season, this could be where we are traveling.  This year each team played each other once plus four cross-over games with teams close to home for a total of 14 league games followed by playoffs.   We also attended three tournaments plus our home tournament.

Would you be interested in joining next season?  We are planning to hold a Spring 2008 registration (date to be announced).  We are hoping that players/parents will be willing to make a commitment to the team in the Spring in order for us to more effectively plan for the upcoming season.  Fees will be approx $285 (to be confirmed by Maidstone Minor Hockey in Sept/08) with a 1/3 deposit required at registration.

Tournament  fees are extra.  In 2007/08 fees ranged from $425 - $695 per team.

Each minor hockey family was required to sell $2,000 in grocery vouchers this season.  A similar requirement will be in place next season.  Other fundraising efforts may be undertaken by the team to help pay for tournaments eg. We sell 50/50’s at each home game.

Teams will be assigned two weeks of kitchen duty which the parents will be required to work (or forfeit $250.00 bond that is required at registration for each family).

Parents are expected to help out where needed at home games (penalty box, scorekeeper, clock, 50/50 sales etc) and at our home tournament.

Coaches for 2007/08 were Ron Hult, Gerry Sielsky, Leanne Bamford, Jay Phipps, Drake Lockhart, manager was Denise Boggust.  Other parents may be required to volunteer in these capacities for the coming season.  All of these parents have girls that will play Pee Wee next season.  The Bantam team will be looking for parents that are willing to coach/manage.

We are planning to have a skate/scrimmage in March in Maidstone for all interested players.  If you have email, would you please email me at deniseboggust@sasktel.net so that I have your address to advise you of more details in this regard.

If you have any questions, please contact Ron Hult 893-4542 or Denise Boggust 895-4227 or email as above.

Thank you. Sincerely, Denise Boggust
